Clay is a Jefferson County suburb about 20 miles northeast of Birmingham via Interstate 20. Take Exit 152 or 156 off I-20, which connects the city to Atlanta and Birmingham's business districts. The rolling Appalachian foothills create popular fishing spots where tributaries meet near the Coosa River system on the city's eastern edge.
