Claude is a small Panhandle farming town 25 miles southeast of Amarillo on US 287. The highway connects directly to I-40 for longer trips, while local routes serve surrounding ranches. Most visitors come through Amarillo, about 45 miles from the airport. The town claims a connection to "Lonesome Dove" author Larry McMurtry and hosts events at its restored 1920s schoolhouse.
