Clarendon, the Donley County seat, sits along US 287 about an hour southeast of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. Most visitors arrive on this highway, which connects to I-40 thirty miles north via State Highway 70. The town serves ranching communities across the rolling plains, and its 1890 red sandstone courthouse remains one of Texas's oldest still in use.
