Claflin is a small farming town along US Highway 56 in central Kansas, about 12 miles northwest of Great Bend. Most visitors arrive on US 56, which connects the town to Great Bend and Larned, or via Highway 4 for north-south travel. The area is classic Great Plains wheat country with grain elevators visible across the flat prairie. The town's restored 1920s grain elevator stands as a distinctive landmark visible for miles.
