Cimarron is a small mountain town in northeastern New Mexico, sitting at 6,427 feet where the Great Plains meet the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Reach it via US Highway 64, which connects to Taos (45 miles west) and continues east toward Texas. State Road 21 provides access from Raton to the northeast. The historic St. James Hotel still shows 26 bullet holes in its dining room ceiling from frontier gunfights.
