Chino lies 35 miles east of LA in San Bernardino County's foothills. I-10 provides the main east-west route, while SR-71 runs north-south through the city center to Pomona and Corona. Daily commuters use SR-83 south to the 91 Freeway and Orange County. The 15 Freeway sits just east via surface streets. Ontario Airport is 10 miles northwest. The city houses the California Institution for Men, one of the state's largest prisons since 1941.
