China is a small East Texas town of about 1,000 people located 20 miles west of Beaumont on Highway 90. Most visitors arrive via I-10 Exit 838, with Houston about 90 miles west. The flat coastal plains here experience typical Gulf Coast humidity and heat. China got its unique name from a grove of China trees that early settlers discovered growing wild in the area.
