Chetopa is a small farming town in southeastern Kansas where US Highway 166 and State Highway 96 intersect. The town sits along the Neosho River about 15 miles east of Coffeyville and 25 miles south of Independence. Most visitors arrive via US 166 from either direction or take Highway 96 from the Independence area. The town's claim to fame is its position where the Neosho River meets Lightning Creek.
