Chesterton is a small Indiana city just off I-94, about 50 miles southeast of Chicago and 15 miles from Gary. US Route 20 and State Road 49 provide additional access, while the South Shore Line offers direct rail service to Chicago. The town sits near the Indiana Dunes between Lake Michigan and inland farm country, creating unique geography with lake-effect weather patterns. Its most unusual attraction is the European Market, a year-round bazaar in a converted church selling international goods and foods.
