Chester Center is a small Connecticut River Valley community of about 2,000 people, reached via Route 148 from Middletown or Route 9 from Hartford (25 miles). The area's winding country roads connect to nearby river towns like Deep River and Essex. The historic Chester-Hadlyme Ferry has been carrying cars across the Connecticut River since 1769.
