Cherokee is a farming town of about 5,150 people in northwestern Iowa where US 59 and Highway 3 intersect. It's 45 miles from Sioux City and serves as a stopping point for travelers crossing the region. The town features the Sanford Museum and Planetarium, one of Iowa's few public planetariums with regional history exhibits.
