Chauncey is a small community of about 650 people in southeastern Ohio, reached via State Route 13 from US Route 33. It's about an hour southeast of Columbus and 15 miles from Athens, sitting in the Appalachian foothills where coal mining once drove the local economy. The town occupies a scenic valley along Shade River, with wooded ridges and old mining remnants still visible in the surrounding hills.
