Charter Oak is a small farming town of 580 people in western Iowa's Crawford County. Highway 141 runs right through town, connecting north to Sac City and south to Atlantic. Most visitors drive from Denison (12 miles southeast via Highway 30), while long-distance travelers use Interstate 80 to Denison then Highway 30 west. The town's name honors Connecticut's famous Charter Oak tree, though Iowa's version exists only in spirit.
