Chapeno is a tiny Starr County community of 95 people along US Highway 83 in the Rio Grande Valley. The main route is US 83 east-west, connecting Roma (15 miles west) and Rio Grande City (20 miles east), with State Highway 16 providing north-south access. Most traffic consists of border business and family visits rather than tourism. The town sits on one of Texas's oldest cattle drive routes from the Spanish colonial era.
