Chanute is a highway crossroads town in southeastern Kansas where US 169 and US 54 intersect. It's about 100 miles south of Kansas City and serves as a convenient stop for travelers heading between Kansas City and Oklahoma or between Wichita and Missouri. The town sits in rolling prairie country and houses the Chanute Air Museum with vintage military aircraft displayed in original 1940s Air Force hangars.
