Channahon sits along Interstate 55 about 50 miles southwest of Chicago, where the Des Plaines River cuts through Will County farmland. Most visitors arrive via I-55 from Chicago or I-80 from the west, with State Route 6 providing local east-west connections. The town serves as a convenient waypoint between Chicago and downstate Illinois, with several gas stations and restaurants clustered near the interstate exits. Channahon State Park preserves a section of the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal, complete with an 1800s lock tender's house.
