Chama is a small mountain town in northern New Mexico at 7,860 feet, connected by US Highway 84 from Española (95 miles south) and Pagosa Springs, Colorado (50 miles north). State Road 17 heads east to Antonito, Colorado. The town is famous for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, a historic narrow-gauge steam train that runs spectacular routes through the high country to Colorado.
