Centralhatchee is a small city of about 660 people in western Georgia's Heard County, roughly 70 miles southwest of Atlanta near the Alabama line. The main route from Atlanta takes I-85 south to I-185, then Highway 27 west through Franklin. State Route 100 connects the city north-south to nearby communities, while Highway 27 provides access from Alabama through rolling Piedmont countryside. The city's name comes from a Creek word meaning "stream running between red banks," describing how the area's distinctive red clay soil colors local waterways during storms.
