Centerville, the Appanoose County seat, sits about 100 miles southeast of Des Moines in south-central Iowa's rolling prairie. Highway 5 runs east-west through town, connecting to Ottumwa and the Des Moines area, while Highway 65 provides north-south access to Interstate 35. The 1903 courthouse with its prominent clock tower has been keeping time on the town square for over a century.
