Cedar Vale is a small farming town of about 500 people in southeastern Kansas near the Oklahoma border. US Highway 166 runs right through town, connecting west to Arkansas City and east toward Coffeyville. Most local trips use Highway 166 or State Highway 99 for north-south travel. The town sits along the Caney River in typical Great Plains country. The old grain elevator from the 1920s still dominates the skyline and serves as the town's most recognizable landmark.
