Catawba is a small town of about 600 people in western North Carolina's foothills, 40 miles northwest of Charlotte via I-77 to I-40 west (Exit 135). Highway 10 connects it to Hickory and Newton for local trips. The area features rolling Piedmont terrain with distant mountain views and a humid subtropical climate. Catawba is home to the historic Bunker Hill Covered Bridge from 1895, one of the state's few remaining covered bridges spanning Lyle Creek.
