Castorland is a tiny hamlet in Lewis County, about 20 miles northeast of Watertown via NY Route 12 and Route 410. This Black River community of under 500 people serves as a gateway to the western Adirondacks, popular with Syracuse and Watertown residents for weekend fishing and outdoor recreation. The hamlet preserves stone foundations from its 1790s French colonial origins along the old mill site by the river.
