Castana is a tiny farming town in western Iowa's rolling hills, reached mainly by Highway 175 which connects east to US 59 near Denison and west toward the Missouri River. Most trips are short runs to nearby Mapleton or longer drives to Sioux City about 45 miles south. The town's 1885 one-room schoolhouse still stands as a piece of Iowa's rural education history.
