Carthage is a small East Texas city of 6,600 people located 150 miles east of Dallas on US Highway 59. The town sits in pine forest country and serves as Panola County's seat. Major routes include US 59 running north-south (connecting Houston to Shreveport) and State Highway 315 east-west (linking Marshall to Louisiana). It's known as the "Gas Capital of East Texas" thanks to massive natural gas reserves discovered in 1936.
