Carthage is a small city in northern New York's Jefferson County, positioned along the Black River about 15 miles southeast of Watertown. You'll reach it via State Route 3 from Watertown or by taking Route 26 to connect with Interstate 81 near Adams. The area serves as a gateway to the Adirondacks, with rolling hills and forests surrounding the community of 3,500 residents. Carthage is home to the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, one of the few free admission zoos in the state.
