Carthage is Moore County's seat, positioned in North Carolina's Sandhills region between the Piedmont and coast. US 15-501 runs north-south through town, connecting to Southern Pines and Chapel Hill, while Route 24 heads east-west to Troy. Most visitors come from the Research Triangle via 15-501 or make shorter trips from Pinehurst and Southern Pines. The 1922 Moore County Courthouse downtown features distinctive red brick and white columns.
