Carter is a tiny farming town of 210 people in western Oklahoma, reached via State Highway 6 north from Elk City and I-40. The main route for out-of-town visitors is I-40 west from Oklahoma City to Elk City, then north on Highway 6 for about 15 miles. The town's grain elevator serves as a prominent landmark visible from the highway.
