Carmine is a tiny farming town of 173 people in Fayette County, about an hour east of Austin on Highway 290. The area features rolling hills, working farms, and historic German-Czech homesteads from the 1800s. Most visitors arrive via Highway 290 from Austin or Houston, while Highway 237 connects south to Interstate 10. The town's restored 1896 German dance hall still hosts weekend dances and community events.
