Carlton is a tiny farming community of 27 people in central Kansas, about 15 miles southeast of Salina via I-135 and county roads. The nearest major access is the Assaria exit off I-135, Kansas's main north-south highway connecting Wichita to the Nebraska border. Old grain elevators from the defunct Rock Island Railroad still dot the prairie landscape around town.
