Calabash is a small coastal town in southeastern North Carolina, just 15 miles from Myrtle Beach via US Highway 17. The town sits where the Calabash River meets the Intracoastal Waterway near the South Carolina border. US 17 is the main route, connecting to Wilmington 45 miles north and providing access from I-95 via US 74. It's famous as the birthplace of Calabash-style seafood, a light-battered frying method that originated in local restaurants during the 1940s.
