Cactus is a small Texas Panhandle city of about 3,100 people located 40 miles northwest of Amarillo on US Highway 287. The drive from Amarillo takes 45 minutes through open rangeland. The town got its name from a large prickly pear cactus that served as a landmark for early settlers.
