Byrnes Mill is a small Jefferson County city about 30 miles southwest of St. Louis, reached via I-44 Exit 269 and Highway 30. The 3,200-resident community sits in rolling Meramec River valley terrain and serves as a gateway to nearby state parks. Most visitors arrive from St. Louis on I-44, while locals use Highway 30 for daily trips to surrounding towns. The city still uses a traditional fire bell to summon its volunteer firefighters.
