Butte is a small farming town in north-central Nebraska's Boyd County, reached via US Highway 12 from Norfolk (60 miles east) or Valentine (west). State Highway 11 connects north-south to Spencer. The rolling ranch country along the Niobrara River valley offers more varied terrain than typical Nebraska plains. The restored 1904 Butte Opera House reflects the town's early days as a regional trading hub.
