Butler is the county seat of Choctaw County in west-central Alabama, home to about 2,400 people. US Highway 17 runs right through town, connecting north to Lisman and south to Grove Hill. Most visitors arrive via US-17 or State Route 10, which intersects just south of town. The red brick courthouse built in 1949 dominates the town square and serves as Butler's most recognizable landmark.
