Burns is a small farming town in south-central Kansas, about 45 miles northeast of Wichita via US Highway 77. The main route from Wichita takes I-135 north to Newton, then US-77 north for 30 miles through rolling prairie country. Kansas Highway 150 provides east-west connections to other Marion County communities. The town still maintains one of Kansas's few active one-room schoolhouses.
