Burnet is the county seat located about 60 miles northwest of Austin via Highway 281, the main north-south route through town. Highway 29 runs east-west, connecting to Georgetown and Llano. The city sits on Lake Buchanan in the Hill Country at 1,300 feet elevation, providing cooler temperatures than most of central Texas. Each April, the courthouse square becomes completely covered in bluebonnets during the famous Bluebonnet Festival.
