Buffalo, a town of 4,600 in north-central Wyoming, sits along Interstate 25 between Casper and Sheridan. It's the gateway to Bighorn National Forest via US Highway 16, which climbs west into the mountains from town. The interstate connects to I-90 near Sheridan, making Buffalo a natural stopping point for cross-country travelers. The historic Occidental Hotel downtown still displays bullet holes in its ceiling from an 1890s shootout.
