Buckshot is a tiny desert community of 45 people in far southwestern Arizona, about 15 miles northeast of Yuma on State Route 95. Most visitors arrive via I-8 from Phoenix (3.5 hours) or California, then head north from Yuma. The settlement sits in classic Sonoran Desert terrain with extreme summer heat and mild winters. It's named after an old mining claim where prospectors used buckshot pellets to separate gold from sand.
