Buckland is a remote Inupiat village in northwest Alaska, accessible only by small aircraft through its local airport. Located 75 miles southeast of Kotzebue along the Buckland River, this community of 533 relies on subsistence hunting and fishing. The village operates one of Alaska's last traditional permafrost ice cellars for food storage.
