Buchtel is a small Athens County town of about 450 people, located 15 miles southeast of Athens via State Route 13. Most visitors arrive from Columbus using US Route 33 east through Athens, then south on Route 13. The area sits in Ohio's Appalachian foothills with rolling, forested terrain. Buchtel maintains one of Ohio's few remaining one-room schoolhouses still occasionally used for educational programs.
