Buchanan is a small valley town in western Virginia, about 20 miles north of Roanoke along Interstate 81. Take Exit 168 to reach downtown via Route 11, which connects the town to Lexington and other Shenandoah Valley communities. The James River runs right through town, and Buchanan marks the start of the James River Heritage Trail, a 10-mile path following the old canal towpath.
