Bryson City is a mountain town of 1,900 in western North Carolina's Smoky Mountains, accessible via US 19 from Cherokee or Andrews, and US 74 from Asheville (about an hour drive). It sits at the gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Nantahala National Forest, surrounded by peaks over 4,000 feet. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad still runs scenic train excursions through the Nantahala Gorge from the historic downtown depot.
