Browntown is a farming village of about 250 people in Green County's dairy country, 20 miles southwest of Monroe via Highway 11. County Road F connects north to Darlington and south to the Illinois border. Most traffic is local agricultural, with winter weather affecting county roads. The abandoned Chicago and North Western Railway bed still cuts through the countryside east of town.
