Brookston is a small farming town of 1,530 people in White County, about 30 miles northwest of Lafayette. Most visitors arrive via State Road 18 from Interstate 65 near Remington, or take US 52 north from Lafayette through Delphi. The flat prairie landscape, once part of the Grand Kankakee Marsh, now supports productive agriculture. The town's working grain elevator towers over the railroad tracks and remains visible for miles across the countryside.
