Brooklyn is a small Illinois city of about 730 people sitting right across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis. Take I-55 to Exit 206, or cross from Missouri on I-64 or I-70 and connect south. It's popular with commuters who work in St. Louis but want Illinois's lower property taxes. The city was founded in 1873 as one of America's first incorporated African American communities.
