Brackettville is a small ranching town in southwest Texas, about 120 miles west of San Antonio on US Highway 90. The town of 1,600 sits in desert brush country near the Mexican border, with Del Rio 30 miles west and Eagle Pass reachable via Highway 131 south. The area sees scorching summers and mild winters typical of the Chihuahuan Desert. Brackettville's claim to fame is Alamo Village, the movie set built for John Wayne's 1960 film "The Alamo," which still stands today with its authentic adobe buildings and wooden sidewalks.
