Box Canyon is a remote desert community of 19 people in Val Verde County, near the Mexican border. Reach it via US 90 to local ranch roads, or from Del Rio (40 miles southeast) via US 277 north to county roads. The challenging route requires extra fuel and water, with no EV charging available. The settlement gets its name from distinctive box-shaped limestone formations that early settlers used for natural shelter.
