Boulder City sits 26 miles southeast of Las Vegas via US Route 93, built in the 1930s to house Hoover Dam workers. This desert community prohibits gambling and serves as a gateway to Lake Mead. The drive from Vegas takes about 30 minutes through scenic Mojave Desert terrain. It's the only US city founded by the federal government that still maintains its original 1930s master-planned grid layout.
