Bolivia is a tiny Brunswick County community about 20 miles south of Wilmington on US Highway 17. The main route connects travelers between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, while NC 211 provides access from inland areas. Despite its small size, Bolivia gained its unusual name in the early 1900s when postal officials reportedly spun a globe and randomly selected the South American country.
