Blanchard is a tiny farming community of 51 people in northwest Missouri's Atchison County, about 45 miles west of Saint Joseph via US Highway 136. Reach it from Kansas City by taking I-29 north to Saint Joseph, then US 136 west through rolling agricultural country. The settlement sits near Tarkio Creek, where old stone bridge foundations from the original wagon road crossing still remain visible.
